Rosh Hashannah |
Rosh Hashannah means "The head of the year" the beginning of the civil year, of the Jewish calander. At Rosh hashanah the shofar (ram's horn) is blown, beginning and the10 Days of Repentance. These 10 days culminate with Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonment. Rosh Hashannah is commorated on the seventh month of the Jewish calendar (1st of Tishrei). It is a one day observance. Lev. 23:23-25 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'In the seventh month on the first of the month, you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. 'You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD.'" Num. 29:1-6 'Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets. 'And you shall offer a burnt offering as a soothing aroma to the LORD: one bull, one ram, and seven male lambs one year old without defect; also their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah for the bull, two-tenths for the ram, and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs. 'And offer one male goat for a sin offering, to make atonement for you, besides the burnt offering of the new moon, and its grain offering, and the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and their libations, according to their ordinance, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the LORD. The purpose of Rosh Hashannah is to prepare the Nation of Israel for the Day of Atonement. In the future Messiah Yeshua will returns with the sound of a trumpet 1 Thess. 4:16 "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the
voice of an archangel, and with the ttrumpet of G-d…" There will be a
future Rosh Hashannahto prepare the nation of Israel. The final fulfillment
of the Day of Attonement will occur when Messiah Yeshua returns to earth
to regather and save the nation of Israel. He will apply the atonement
of His sinless blood to the sins of the Jewish nation. |
Isaiah 11: 11, 12 Isaiah 27: 12 ,13 Also at that time, when the shofar sounds, G-d will gather His believers to be with their Messiah in the clouds, and thus, be with Him forever. Another theme of Rosh Hashannah was that of repentance or return. As our people reflect during the 10 Days of Awe, from Rosh Hashonah to Yom Kippur, we should also turn and make things right with G-d and man. Whether we are believers or not, we are to turn to G-d. If we have never accepted Yeshua, as our Messiah and Savior, we need to turn, believe, and put our trust in His sacrifice for us. If we are believers, we are to turn, confess our sins to G-d and have a new restored relationship with Him. (Larry Feldman, Congregational Leader of Shuvah Yisrael Messianic Congregation.) |
